Happy Thanksgiving everyone.  I thought I’d get in some great shots of the family today, but I guess it’s all about Deena.  Enjoy!

Disappear

If I begged and if I cried
would it change the sky tonight?
Would it give me some light?

Should I wait for you to call?
Is there any hope at all?
Are you drifting by?

When I think about it
I know that I was never held
or even cared
The more I think about it
The less that I was able to share…
with you

I try to reach you
I can almost feel you,
you’re nearly here,
and then….
you disappear

New Camera

I know the XT was nice, but the limitations bugged the HELL out of me, so I finally upgraded to the Canon EOS 50D.  I had my heart set on a Nikon D90, but with all of the Canon accessories I already have, I didn’t really feel like starting all over again.  I’ll be selling my Rebel on e-bay soon.

I haven’t taken any serious photos with it yet, but here are a few (and trust me, the quality’s MUCH better than the Rebel)

This was taken with no tripod or special settings. The camera captures light BEAUTIFULLY in the dark!

We did it, I can’t believe it.

I can’t believe it, I really can’t believe it!  I’ve actually lived to see a black man elected as President of the United States!  Record number of Americans waited in lines for hours just to get their voices heard…AND IT WORKED!  I’m so proud, I’m so happy, I’m so inspired…I can’t even express how I feel.  On November 4th, 2008 at around 11pm, Senator Barack Obama was announced as the President Elect!  Senator McCain graciously conceded shortly thereafter.

Obama’s speech was touching.  He maintained poise despite his bittersweet success.

Many people have mentioned how Obama’s winning this election has breathed a new hope for African Americans in the US.  It’s also inspired people around the world.  I feel a change is coming for all of us.

What really makes me happy is the fact that children out there (and some adults too) have a new found role model.  The Obama family is a beautiful example of a thriving family unit, educated beings, and success.

I’m anxiously looking forward to the future.  I was so afraid to picture Obama winning, that now, I don’t know how to handle his victory.  It’s surreal!

Halloween is a silly azz holiday.  I haven’t dressed up in years but put the effort in to be the best darn pirate I could be this time around.  I know that this is supposed to be a kid’s holiday, but 30+thousand grown adults showed up for the Halloween Street party on Church Street this year.

This was the funniest costume I saw!!  Do you see the bills on his utility belt?!?!?!?

It Bears Repeating

Tags:

Last week, I was invited by one of my sistars to visit the Well’s Built Museum to see a play called “It Bears Repeating“.  The museum was built in 1926 and still has it’s original hotel facade from the 1930′s.  This historic hotel (now museum) provided lodging to African Americans during our era of segregation.   I’ve lived in Orlando most of my life and NEVER saw it, but I must say, I’m glad I visited.

The play provided an accurate depiction of the struggles that African Americans went through in order to gain the right to vote.  Beautifully performed by some friends of mine, Erob, Stu, and also included a new friend, Craig Joseph.  I wish I remembered the playright’s name because not only did she do an awesome job writing this play, but she also gave one hell of a performance (the woman brought me to tears)
