Obama Rally 2008

Tags: , , , , , ,

I waited in line 4 hours just to see Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton in Orlando on 10/20/2008.

Although I was far away and couldn’t see the stars of the show, I’m happy that I was amongst the 40,000 DIVERSE supports who attended.

Anonymous father and son at the rally (I wish I knew who they were so I could send them this photo).  Looking at the boy’s eyes, I’m sure that being there that day has touched and affected him in some way.  Are we looking into the innocent eyes of a future president?  We’ll see (at least we know now that it’s possible).

In my heart of hearts, I believe that Obama is the candidate who can bring this country together.  Weather we sink down into another great depression, or if we rise above the abysmal failures of the Republican party, we’d at least be united under Obama.

I Got a Bracelet Too

This week, I received an anonymous call inviting me to a ‘Debate Watch’ party here in Orlando. The Crown Plaza in Downtown Orlando was not the best location for such an event, but it was still good to be out amongst people and experience this historic debate.

Before I talk about the debate…I wanted to mention how DIVERSE the group of people who attended the party were.  It was an even mix of young, old, black and white and I was really pleased to see every one of them (especially if they were all registered to vote)

For me, all of the anticipation leading towards the debate led up to a heaping pile of disappointment.  The debate left me feeling like no new information was provided and most of the questions were left unanswered.

This week’s MAJOR topic of the $700Billion bailout was barely touched, leaving McCain to repeatedly give us a history lesson on his track record and for Obama to clearly point out McCain’s assimilation with Bush.

Some of my favorite lines from the debate included:

  • “…This pen’s old too…”
  • “…you, who threatened extinction to North Korea…sand songs about bombing Iran”
  • ” He just doesn’t get it”
  • I have a bracelet too

I agree with the 61% of CNN watchers who felt that Obama won this debate.  My only complaint on Obama’s performance was that he stated ‘McCain’s right’ on too many occasions…”If he’s right that means you’re wrong.  McCain seemed to have a hard time providing clear answers to questions and easily ventured off into his track record.  I give him 10 cool points for ‘manning up’ and actually attending the debate tonight.  For a while there, everyone was afraid he was going to skip out on it completely.

Overall, I’m happy to have taken such an interest in the political process this election period.  I have a whole new respect for our country and the infinite possibilities we possess.

Did you all watch the debate?  What were your favorite parts?

Infinite Possibilities

I thought this was a sweet photo of Mr. and Mrs. Obama in their younger days.  I bet when they took this photo, they never imagined where they’d be in 2008.  I mean, as a bi-racial man in America, graduating from college is wonderful; becoming a father, commendable; becoming a politician, respectable;  but PRESIDENT, that’s IMPOSSIBLE….until now.

I have really been inspired by this man and I actually believe that he can make a difference in ALL our lives here in America.  And on top of that, with all the good he’s trying to accomplish, people are out there plotting to kill this man.  Could you picture yourself with the massive responsibility/pressure on your shoulders like the one he (and his family) has right now!?!?!

My Barack Obama shirt finally arrived and boy, did I get a lot of compliments.  I kept getting stopped by people who wanted to know where I got it (UrbanOutfitter.com,  by the way), but then I came to a realization….

You can rock as many t-shirts, bumper stickers, and pins as you want, but that’s not going to mean ANYTHING unless you vote.  So please, before you start forking out the cash for a t-shirt, take a minute and register to vote.  All of this effort goes to waste if we don’t get to the polls in November.
